Here on the West side of Cleveland, I am meeting with a group of local business leaders watching the results come in from London. This is a political earthquake. The political elites in Europe are not listening to the common man. The people of the UK have decided that unelected bureaucrats are not going to send dictates down to them anymore. This was a vote for jobs, growth and freedom. Both of the major British parties, the Conservatives and Labour were campaigning for a “Remain” vote.
Washington had better listen to the echoes from across the Atlantic. The voting patterns in England show clearly what happened. London, the finance, and insurance center of Europe voted to stay. The rest of the country voted to go. The farmers, coal miners, steel workers, auto workers all voted to leave. The hard working people who pour concrete, bend steel and pull wire have been the losers the last ten years.
There is nothing wrong with finance and banks. We need them for the modern economy to work. The government elites looking down on the physical economy of power plants, food and manufacturing are in for a real shocker this November.
